Sample Review- Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Wednesday, 10 December 2014

So I received this cute little sample after signing up for something ages ago and it finally came! I've always been intrigued with SmashBox primers because I've heard such good things about the classic Photo Finish primer- so I actually thought I was getting that one however I got a new-ish one that actually comes out like a foundation. I was slightly disappointed when I opened it and found this because I was really hoping to try the original.

When you put this onto your face it does actually feel like a powder has been applied? But a really soft moisturising one if you get me? You literally only need the smallest amount and it'll do it's job! I do like this because most samples are only day ones however this has managed to last me the past 5 days plus another 2 or 3 if I'm lucky.

I have to say it does do it's job incredibly well, it claims to minimise pores and I can definitely notice that around my nose but unlike some primers my skin doesn't feel too clogged up. The only other thing I have to say is that it does leave a matte finish, which I don't really like because I prefer a very dewy look.

I'm on the fence with this product because although it does do the job incredibly well, it smells nice and leaves my skin feeling amazing it just isn't for me. I prefer silicone based primers as my skin always feels 100 times more moisturised with those ones. Plus the fact that this primer isn't very budget-friendly I doubt I will actually go out of my way to buy it. I'm not dismissing the original primer if I get to try it because I'm very interested to compare the two!

Christmas Tag

Tuesday, 9 December 2014

I've seen this tag quite a lot so thought I'd hop on the bandwagon and answer it too! If you've done the tag leave me your link down below and I'll check it out!

What's your favourite Christmas movie?
It's gotta be Elf, Home Alone and Love Actually. I remember going to see Elf in the cinema when it first came out and absolutely hated it, then I refused to watch it, until a few years a go when the huge hype of the film became real again and it's safe to say I love it. Home Alone is a classic film that I always feel can't be watched unless it's the Christmas season? Is anyone else like this haha? I just love Love Actually-one of the best chick flicks out there! I love how all the cast link up in some way or another- and speaking of cast there are some very fine men in there (talking to you Mr Hugh Grant!)

What are your favourite Christmas colours?
It's gotta be the classic deep green, red and gold! I don't know any other colours, they're just the ones that have always made some sort of appearance on my tree!

Do you like to stay in your PJ's or dress up for Christmas?
Well when I was younger and everyone used to go to my Nanny's for lunch we all used to dress up and me my sister and cousin would all have matching dresses (so freaking cute) but now that we don't do that anymore I just wear casual wear? But my new dressing gown I get every year does of course make an appearance.

Do you open your presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Christmas morning.. I am very intrigued to why/who opens them on Christmas Eve? SANTA WON'T HAVE BEEN YET?

Have you ever built a gingerbread house?
I've made one with play dough which was pretty cool? I've been meaning to do one for years but I'm actually going to stick to my words and make one this year!

What do you like to do during your Christmas holidays?
Just see my family, eat loads and take a well deserved rest? I feel Christmas is the perfect time to lay in bed watching films eating my body weight in crap (then again I do that most weekends however Christmas makes it a little more acceptable?)

Any Christmas wishes?
Just for my family to get on. My family never actually all get together for Christmas anymore because of all the fighting and I just think it's really sad because I used to love spending it with everyone.

Favourite Christmas meal or treat?
It's gotta be Yorkshire Puddings (I eat plates of these weekly) or Candy Canes? So yummy!!

Goodies from The Sunday Beauty School Event

Monday, 8 December 2014

Once again I was incredibly lucky to receive a goody bag from The Sunday Beauty School- I have wrote a post about my experience at the event itself here so check that out if you haven't already! Anyway, when we arrived we found these cute canvas bags from one of he sponsors Mark Hill with a name tag on which I thought was really cute and a nice personal touch! I love these bags because I can go and reuse them again and again!

First up in there I found some leaflets telling me more about The Sunday Beauty School and some pictures of Amy's work which were amazing.

I then found this cute little 'does it all' shampoo from Mark Hill which is going to be perfect for when I go to Italy as it's just the right size for travelling!

As I delved a little deeper I found this cute little box from another one of the sponsors Melissa Morgan Designs with literally a necklace that was made for me!! I am quite literally obsessed with this necklace and have been wearing it all the time!! I'm so glad I got introduced to Melissa's brand and I can see a few purchases coming her way from me very soon!

Then at the bottom of the bag I found these 3 littlies from The Balm the final sponsor for the night. I got a really nice brown shade called Matt Batali which is actually in the Meet Matt(e) palette which I'm really excited to try. To go with this there was a primer and a lip and cheek stain which I'm really excited to use!

I then found a free hand and arm massage for me and a friend at Jo Malone which I'm ecstatic to get round to! When can you go wrong with a free massage?!

What Amy and Emily made us do was go round and speak to each of the brands before we got a gift from then which I thought was really cool as it made us actually have really in depth conversations with the brands and learn more about them.

I went to Vanilla first and got given this bag with my name on and found another gorgeous necklace- because Vanilla are more on the styling side they actually took the time to look on our blogs and instagram's and see what we would actually like, which is so amazing! They made it so personal.

I then went and got my nails done by the lovely Bettyhobo and got given this lovely set of a pale pink polish and top coat from CND. In the bag she gave me there was also a leaflet explaining her brand and about her spa experience she gives.

Lastly I went to SheBlends and got so much yummy food it's unreal- I would do silly things to re-eat the food she gave me because it was amazing! As well as the free food she gave us all a recipe card on how to make savoury oat pancakes which I'm really excited to try as they're something I've always wanted to try but never got round to it!

Complexion Perfection Brushes Review

Sunday, 7 December 2014

So last week I saw Emily from imhereforever_ post about a fluffy brush she had been sent by Complexion Perfection along with a 10% off code. I had never actually heard of the brand so I went onto their website and did some browsing, I did find that I wanted all of their brushes- however my bank balance wouldn't like me for that haha! So I chose just two brushes, a fluffy blending brush and a really nice unique contouring brush.

It arrived really fast actually. I ordered the products on the Friday evening, and by the Monday it had arrived, it was only with a second class stamp too! It arrived in a small brown box, then when I opened it I found my brushes wrapped in this adorable pink tissue paper and a very cute business card.

First up is the fluffy blending brush that I actually saw Emily post about. I've wanted/needed a really fluffy brush for ages now, I was going to go with the MAC one however the price has just been putting me off (student issues) so when I saw this one for £3.29 I nearly choked and put it straight in my basket!

After using it for the past week its safe to say this is well worth it! It blends so well with such little effort. The only thing I do have to say is that a few of the hairs have fallen out, but for £3.29 I'm 100% okay with this.

The second brush I bought was what I think is a really unique flat contour brush. I'm used to just using my Real Techniques contour brush from their core collection, so switching to this was weird but so far its been really good! The brush itself is so soft on my face I love it.

This brush is known as a premium on the website so sells for £7.99, which I still think of as reasonable for the quality and the job it does. Its really good at getting right into the hollows of my cheeks which I love. It is perfect for both cream and powder products, I haven't quite worked out whether I prefer to use cream or powdered products with this brush but either way its amazing!

Overall I love these brushes and will definitely be purchasing from this company again! Hope you all enjoyed this post, I really enjoyed writing it!xo

Fake Tan Routine

Thursday, 4 December 2014

I've only now started wearing fake tan because before I was too lazy to actually aplly it myself so would get spray tans. I use St Moriez Mousse which is amazing for those who are tanning-newbies as it's really quite hard to mess it up.

I start off 24 hours before I want to tan by shaving and exfoliating my body. I do this 24 hours before to help give my body time for my pores to close- by this I mean if you do this the night before you shouldn't get those horrible dots on your legs where the tan has gone into open pores. You want to make sure to exfoliate specifically elbows, knees and ankles- the typically rough areas, as well as all over to get rid of dead skin cells.
I'm currently using this Super beauty raspberry and cranberry body scrub, but I'm honestly not fussy- as long as it's got those small grains in I'll use it.

I then lather my body in moisturiser overnight and just let it sink into my skin so I'm all smooth. I love this moisturise because it leaves me feeling so soft for days and it smells heavenly!!

After this I usually sleep with the moisturiser on, then when I wake up I have a quick shower to have a general clean of my body and get rid of some of the moisturiser.

Now on to the actual tan. I use the St Moriez mousse in dark. I find using a mousse is easier because it doesn't drip anywhere and its just so easy to apply.

I usually start from the bottom up (ie from my legs up to my neck) applying two pumps onto the mitt and then rubbing it in small circular motions.

I usually do two coats to get that extra dark glow that I love! I'll then leave it for 4-8 hours depending on what I'm doing that day/night, and then showering and putting moisturiser on! This is what two coats look like immediately on me.

Providing I stay well moisturised my tan usually lasts about a week, I then try and re-do the whole process as I love that lovely glow I get! It makes me feel so much happier inside and out.

What tanning products do you use? Let me know in the comments below!!

Sunday Beauty School Bloggers Event

Wednesday, 3 December 2014

So on Wednesday 26th I attended Amy (FlamingoAmy) and Emily (LoveMoiMakeup) bloggers event promoting their amazing business The Sunday Beauty School. I attended the event with my trusty blogging companion Siobhan The school itself looks amazing, offering classes in Amy and Emily's specialities hair and make-up. You can learn how to do the Kim Kardashian with Hollywood Hair and Glamour Make-up or The Dita with 1940's Victory Rolls and Vintage Velvet Skin. They have such an amazing variety of classes to choose from I love it. We were lucky enough to be shown The Dita!

Amy started with hair and the most beautiful Victory Rolls- she even gave us a little history lesson on why they're called Victory Lessons which I thought was really cool! But Amy made it look so unbelievably easy- I am yet to try it however give me time and you'll be surprised! It'll probably take a few attempts but I'm hoping I can conquer it as I've always loved vintage/pin-up looks! (apologies in advance for the quality of photos)

Emily then moved onto make-up, she'd already done the base so just focused on eyes and lips. The look is so simple just looks so flawless (probably helped that Hilary the model is absolutely gorgeous!!) In true Emily style she added some glitter to the eyes and lips- which obviously you wouldn't find on a typical 1940's make-up look, but I liked that Emily added her own twist!

And here we have the finished look! Hilary is wearing a full outfit from Vanilla who were there but I'll talk about them later! But the outfit is just so classy and suits Hilary so well, I love it!

After the demonstration we got to have a walk around and meet the other bloggers, chat to the brands and just have a general mooch. I started off by having a chat to Emily- who might I say  is just as gorgeous in real life as she is in her instagram photos! We had an in-depth conversation about my struggles with getting good looking brows (my utter beauty struggle) and she suggested using a combination of pencil to create the sharp definition and powder to fill the brows out- she did my brows there and I was just so shocked at how amazing she made them look so I've been using her little trick for the past week!

I then moved onto Amy's stand which might I say is absolutely beautiful!! See the top image for a look!

Next up I went onto Vanilla and spoke to their lovely ladies! They were so friendly and bought some gorgeous pieces in too- I love that Vanilla isn't just a shop where you go and pick your clothes, it's more of a place you can go and get help from a bunch of friendly staff who help you find everything you need for your wardrobe!! They gave me a special little gift which you'll see getting featured very soon!

By this time I was so incredibly hungry and luckily SheBlends was there with so much food! SheBlends is basically a brand promoting a healthy attitude towards food and body well-being. She creates amazing recipe's for you to recreate and oh my I most certainly will be recreating!! The was hummus that I fell in love with, vegetable cakes (?!?!!?!?) which sounds like the weirdest thing ever but I was obsessed- I literally couldn't take myself away from her stand!! I can't wait to try some of her recipe's myself!

Lastly I visited Betty's Beauty for a little bit of relaxation and had my nails done. My nails were in awful shape because I'd just stupidly ripped all my acrylics off (how dumb!) so she carefully filed and painted them, then added CND's newest creation- the 'week long' top coat. Now I don't know if it's because I have awful nails anyway, or because I knock my nails about a lot at college or work, but this did definately not last a week. I started to notice chipping after 3 days? And 5 days after getting them done they were all chipped and ugly so I removed the varnish! The lady was so lovely though, helping me with my poor nails and what I could do to help improve them!

Overall I have to say this was an amazing event! It felt so personal, Emily and Amy were so lovely and approachable and I learnt so much!! Plus we got these amazing goodie bags which I will delve into fully very soon!
